It’s not a big secret that Canadian retailers are having a hard time keeping up with the exchange rates with the US Dollar.  Although Mount-Cashmere has purchased its entire collection at a time when the Canadian Dollar was lower than the US Dollar, we have decided to change our prices regardless to benefit our Canadian customers. 

That’s right Canada, as of October 15th 2007 all our Canadian prices are at par with our US prices.  Please enjoy!

As we cannot predict what will happen in a month’s time or even next year, our prices can be changed at any given time without any notice.

Cashmere is underdown, shed annually by goats living in the high and dry plateaus surrounding the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and China.

Because of these very cold conditions, the Cashmere goat has developed extremely sleek, soft, warm and silky under hair called the 'duvet' that hides beneath the relatively coarse outer hair, called the guard hair.

Every June the fleece of these very special goats is combed, collected and sorted by hand, a very time consuming and lengthy process. Indeed, it takes one of these rare goats four years to grow enough cashmere for just one sweater. No wonder then, that cashmere is such a luxury fibre collected and desired by discerning men and women worldwide.

Cashmere's use as a luxury fibre can be dated back to Roman times. More recently, it was popularized by the Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, who had the fibre woven in France into her famous 'ring shawl', so called because this shawl could be drawn through her wedding ring.

For many years cashmere was manufactured in Scotland and Italy, however, in recent years its much of its manufacture has returned to its roots in Mongolia where they are able to employ the latest technology in manufacturing cashmere into luxury clothing while still using the age old methods of collecting and sorting.
